Once on This Island brings a captivating, Caribbean-inspired retelling of The Little Mermaid to the historic Sunshine Brooks Theater. Based on Rosa Guy’s 1985 novel My Love, My Love; or, The Peasant Girl, this enchanting musical follows Ti Moune, a spirited peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a young man from the wealthier side of the island. Guided by the island’s powerful gods, Ti Moune embarks on a courageous journey of love, sacrifice, and self-discovery that transcends class divides. Featuring a lush score and compelling storytelling, this production offers a powerful exploration of resilience, identity, and the complexities of love.
