By Luigi Pirandello
Translated by Martha Witt and Mary Ann Freese Witt
Directed by Katie Turner
The play tells the story of a fantastical cast of “characters” from an unfinished play that have come to a theatre in hopes of having their story completed. The theatre company they stumble upon happens to be in a crisis themselves, laboring over a play they neither care about nor understand (laughably, a play by the Nobel Prize winning author Pirandello). When the “characters” enter the room and make their case, the theatre director sees the potential of their strange drama and instructs his company to begin staging it. Chaos ensues when the characters and actors fight over whose version of the story is how it “really happened.”
